Barehanded Drill

November 2006

By: Chuck Faulkner

EQUIPMENT: JUGS Toss Machine, Balls, JUGS Instant Screen or JUGS Sock Net Protective Screen

PURPOSE: To assist fielders with coordination necessary to fielding the ball barehanded and making an accurate throw to a target.

The JUGS Toss Machine is set up to deliver the ball to the fielder who catches it with the throwing hand. The fielder quickly shifts their feet and shoulders to make a good throw to the target (either JUGS Instant Screen or JUGS Sock Net Protective Screen.) Following the throw, the fielder gets back in position for another repetition. The JUGS Toss Machine will give each fielder between 12 to 14 repetitions each. Fielders can switch after all of the balls in the machine have been use or after each throw. Fielders can also change positions around the machine to practice receiving the ball from different angels on the throwing hand side of their body.
